MIS opens office in Turkey

Maxx Intermodal Systems announces the opening of a new office in Turkey. The office in Istanbul will enhance the company’s current cargo flows to Russia and Central Asia and will assist in servicing new and existing customers.

Speaking on the new development, Mr Wil Fermon, Business Development Manager of Maxx Intermodal Systems said: “Expanding our network into Turkey will provide our customers with the strength of a global company combined with local market experience. It underscores our commitment to further develop our regional activities and will help us to improve the quality of our customer service.”

Turkey is historically linked to both Russia and Central Asia. It cultivates common ethnic, linguistic, cultural and religious ties with Central Asia. It was also the first country in 1991 to officially recognize the independence of the new republics. Gradually, Turkey has been expanding its influence in the region, especially in energy rich states as Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan.

Turkey’s economic relation with Russia is even stronger. According to the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Trade, Russia was Turkey’s second largest trade partner in 2008, representing 11.4% of the country’s total trade volume.

Mr Fermon said that Turkey’s position as an important trade partner for Russia and Central Asia made it a natural choice for establishing a local hub in the country. “Our immediate objective is to obtain a strong position in the import and export business between Turkey and the CIS. Turkish investments and activities in the region are growing and we are anticipating an increasing demand for professional logistics services.”

The local presence will also enable the company to gain access to the Middle East and the Balkan. “We are delighted to have a permanent and much needed presence in Istanbul and look forward to obtaining part of the volume that is transported in transit to the Middle East and to and from Turkey via the Black Sea,” says Mr Fermon.

In regards to the opening, Mr Martin De Sterck, CEO of Maxx Intermodal Systems was quoted as saying “We are very excited about this opportunity. The opening brings us within closer reach of existing and new customers and we are convinced that MIS will develop quickly in this region.”
